Bureau CAY closely observed the current issue of graduated product designers not entering the industry that easily. The designers and the producers speak two different languages in terms of how things get produced. At Bureau CAY the aim is to create a dialogue between these two parties and come to a common ground.

We invite fresh graduated product designers to design a certain furniture archetype. The bureau gives them the freedom to apply their own conceptual idea to a stool for example.

By presenting the designs to the industry, there will be a interesting conversation of how it could be produced in their own factory.

The red arrow is the process of selecting designers who can be a part of the platform.

The green arrow is the recognition by producers who are interested in taking their design into production.

The collaboration with Royal CBM will support the production of the designs and this will make sure that the designers earn a living based on royalties. Most companies work with a royalty percentage between 3-5%, so if it is 5%, the creative facilitator gets 2% and the designer 3%.

Since Bureau CAY is creating a foundation to build on, the following business model is interesting where the production is done in the studio of the designer and Bureau CAY is responsible for the commercial side of selling the design. The 50/50 agreement of the selling price would be ideal for this.
