Together with Hutten, my external partner, we found a common road where they want to make the furniture industry more appealing and I want to give more exposure for recently graduated designers to collaborate with the industry. Hutten is part of Royal CBM, the furniture industry group representing Dutch furniture companies. During my graduation project I had several dialogues with Boris van Beek, the owner of Hutten, to see how we can collaborate with each other. The first dialogue was based on introducing each other and what the ambitions of Bureau CAY. He told me the history of Hutten and what Hutten is currently doing in the residential and contract market. Clients like Bagel&Beans and other horeca companies keep the production flow going at Hutten. Boris showed me around the production facility, where they have machines that can work with wood and metal and even a powder coating station to add color to the metal. This was a very insightful experience that I could pass on to the designers. The other dialogue was based on the current state of Royal CBM and discussing how they want to make the industry more appealing. They had several interesting ideas how to do this and Boris mentioned that he finds the approach of Bureau CAY very interesting. This external partner relation is based on having a dialogue, exchanging knowledge and a possible collaboration in the future.
