The fascination of the macro to micro design approach is very relevant for Bureau CAY. The power of ten by Charles and Ray Eames is a great example of this design approach where it is important to take in account the context while designing. In the movie they show the importance of scale by visualizing the earth all the way to the human body by a factor of ten. Each scale is important and they have a relationship with each other.
A design studio called Industrial Facility uses this approach as well. They work from a micro to macro narrative which is seen in each of their products.
